INTRODUCTI
ON
• Paints are made of three basic components –
1. Binder/Vehicle
2.Pigment/Filler
3.Additives
• BINDERS : These are the base of the paint and these bind the additives and the pigments
together to form a semi solid/liquified coloured matter which dries into solid by time. Also, binder
decides the durability, flexibility and life of the paint.
• PIGMENTS : These are solid granules usually in an amorphous form which decides the colour and
tones when added to the binder/base. These are available in thousands of shades and colours
globally.
• ADDITIVES : These are the external additional agents which helps in achieving, the water
proofing, weather proofing, durability, finish of the paint and also features like anti fungal and
washable characteristics of a paint.
- VEHICLES also includes solvents sometimes when the thickness and the type of paint has to be controlled.
When it comes to, paints which are powder base or stainer based paints, the quantity of the base or the binder is more.
-Additives and base are usually mixed and sold together before adding the pigment or the colour stainer.
This lets the buyer to decide which type of BASE is required with which type of ADDITIVE FEATURE needed.
