 The seventh largest island in the Philippines is Mindoro which lies
in the Southern Tagalog Region, off the Southwest Coast of Luzon.
 Mindoro was divided into two provinces, Occidental Mindoro and
Oriental Mindoro.

NATIVE of MINDORO
 The Mindoro tribes particularly the Mangyans live on Mindoro Island in the

MINDORO Philippines. They mostly in thatched huts with raised floors.


 The Hanunuo Mangyans of Oriental Mindoro are known for their
Ambahans which are usually written on bamboo slat. These songs have
rhythmic poetic expression with a meter of seven syllable lines and having
rhythmic end-syllables. They most often most presented as a chant without a
determined musical pitch or accompaniment by musical instruments.

Instruments KUDLUNG
 The kudlung is a form of zither. It is a astringed instruments
having the body of the single piece of bamboo and the strings
are composed of strips raised from its outer skin which are
bridged in place to produce various pitches.
KUDLONG
 The Kudlong is a two-stringed lute shaped like a
boat. One string is often used for droning while
the other is played for melody. It has wooden
tightening rods and frets made of beeswax.
GITGIT
 The gitgit is a chordophone with tree strings
made up of human hair.
LANTOY
 Lantoy or lantuy is a horizontal nose flute which
is made from a piece of bamboo with five carved
finger holes and comes from the a variety of
sizes . It is used to produced soothing sounds.
BATIWTIW
 Batiwtiw is a long piece of bamboo with one split end.
This split end is hit with the palm of the hand to produce
a percussive buzzing sound.
BURAY-DIPAY
 The buray-dipay is a rattle made from a large dried bean pod
which is often used in alongside other instruments.
KINABAN
 The kinaban is a jaw harp made up of a thin piece of brass or
bamboo with a vibrating tongue inside. The harp is held to the
player’s lips and its tongue is vibrated by striking it with the
thumb. The player varies the shape of her mouse to change the
resonance of the variations, creating different pitches and tones.
KALUTANG
 A pair of percussion bars which are struck against each
other at specific angles to produce a pitch. These sticks
are a part of an entire ensemble of kalutang which
when playing together produce melodies.
