 How math can be magic ?
• Usually magicians don’t give away their secret.
But here, we will give away the whole secret,
isn’t it strange to have magic tricks which
work universally and whose secrets can be
given away !!!

• Such magic tricks have a name called

mathematics.
The most important question ?
Why most people think math is
difficult?
 !!! I have an answer !!!

• Mathematics is a language of universe.

• And to know a language , one needs a good hold
on it’s vocabulary.

Question: Do you have good math’s vocabulary?

 Then ……..what is a
• Proof
• Conjecture
• Paradox
 Proof-a proof is an inferential argument for
a mathematical statement

• Direct proof
• Induction proof
• Proof by contradiction
Example: Geometric proof (AM greater than
GM)
Proof by contradiction ( irrationality of square
root 2)
 Conjecture- a conclusion or proposition based on incomplete information, for which no proof has been found

• 3n+1 Conjecture or Collat’z conjecture

• Also look up Goldbach Conjecture, twin prime
conjecture , Four color conjecture and there
are many more
 Paradox- a statement that, despite apparently sound reasoning
from true premises, leads to an apparently self-contradictory or
logically unacceptable conclusion.

• Barber’s paradox

Rules of the game

• Only one disc can be moved each time.
• Never place larger disc on the smaller one
How many steps will it take ?

• For 1 disc
• For 2 discs
• For 3 discs and then for n discs
It will take (2^n)-1 steps for n discs.

• Now if we have n=64 , and suppose manually

it takes 1 sec to move one disc , then how
much time it will take to complete the task ?
(2^64)-1 secs !!!!
But can you imagine how much is this
number ?

Let’s compute ?
 584,942,417,354 years !!!!

way way bigger than the age of universe , which

is just 13.77 billion years
This hugeness makes us secure on internet !!
