ABOUT THE NET


The National Educational Testing Bureau of
CBSC conducts National Eligibility Test (NET)
to determine eligibility for lectureship and for
award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).
ABOUT THE NET CONTINUES….

The tests are conducted twice in a year


generally in the months of June and
December.
CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY
1. Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without
rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination
from universities/institutions recognized by UGC. The
Scheduled Caste SC/ST/PH/Visually Handicapped(VH)
category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks
(without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent
examination are eligible for this Test.
AGE LIMIT & RELAXATION
A. Junior Research Fellowship not more than 28 years.
B. A relaxation up to 5 years is provided to the
candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH/VH categories
and to women applicants. Relaxation will also be
provided to the candidates having research experience,
subject to a maximum of 5 years.
EXEMPTION (ELIGIBILITY FOR
LECTURESHIP)
NET/SET shall remain the minimum eligibility
condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant
Professor in Universities/Colleges/Institutions. Provided,
however, that candidates, who are or have been awarded
PhD Degree.
6. EXAMINATION FEE AND
MODE OF PAYMENT

A. General candidates, the examination fee is Rs.450/-


B. for OBC, the fee is Rs.225/-
C. SC/ST/PH/VH candidates, it is Rs.110/-
D. The fee should be paid in the form of a challen downloaded by
www.ugc.ac.in. and payable at any SBI branches

SESSION - FIRST – PAPER -- I
A. Paper – I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research
aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning
ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the
candidate.
B. 60 multiple choice questions of two marks each will be given, out of which
the candidate would be required to answer any 50.
C. In the event of the candidate attempting more than 50 questions, the first 50
questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.
D. 1.30 seconds per question
SESSION -- SECOND – PAPER -- II
A. Paper – II shall consist of short questions based on the
subject selected by the candidate. Each of these papers
will consist of a Test Booklet containing 50 objective
type questions of two marks each.
50 x 2 = 100 Marks. There will not be any choice.

SESSION -- THIRD – PAPER -- III
A. Paper-III will consist of only OBJECTIVE questions from
the subject selected by the candidate.
B. The candidate will be required to attempt ALL questions .
(75*2=150)**2 min each
C. The format of Paper-III has been revised w.e.f.
June,2012UGC-NET and is available on the UGC website
www.ugc.ac.in .
MINIMUM QUALIFYING MARKS

Paper-III will be evaluated only for those candidates who


are able to secure the minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I
and Paper-II, as per the table given in the following:
