Origin of Six Sigma
• six sigma was developed by bill smith a reliability
engineer in motorola in 1970s.
• later many companies was starving for excellence
adopoted this six sigma.
• It started evolved when japanese firm took over a
motorola factory that manufactured televisions in united
states then japanese company took over it and bring
drastical changes to the way of factory under japanese mgt
• the factory soon producing tv sets with 1/20th the number
of defects they as under motorola mgt.
Definition
• “ six sigma is a methodology to reduce the
cost & cycle time improvement , low waste of
materals and better understanding the
customer requirements, increased customer
satisfaction & more reliable products &
services.
Drawback of six sigma
• It is costlier to implement & it take several
years after result appears on a company

Six sigma methodology
• DMAIC: It reffers to a data driven quality strategy
for improving proces.this methodology is used to
improve an existing business products or services.
• DMADV : It reffers to a data driven quality
strategy for designing products & process.this
methology is used to create new products designs
or process designs in such a way that it results in a
more predictable nature & defect free performance.
