Have you ever thought that your

parents are too protectors?

parents.

food?
 Everyday hundreds of children starved. Have you ever complained about
having to study?

 Milions of children are illiterate and don’t have the oppurtinity to have a better
life!
“The child is father of the
man”- William
Wordsworth
The sentence 'The child is father to the man'
by William Wordsworth means:

the idea that the character that we form as

children stays with us into our adult life.

Any comments?
2008 – 215 millions working illegally in the eyes of international
law, almost 14% of all the world’s children under 18.

150 millions children between 5-14years old worldwide are

engaged in child labour.
CAUSES OF CHILD LABOUR:
• Poverty is the main cause of child labour but it is a symptom as well. Poor
parents send their children to work for reasons of economic expediency.

 But the consequent denial of education blocks the escape route from poverty for
the next generation of the household. There are many other factors that conspire to
drive children into employment. Only when we fully understand these reasons
can we begin to address the problems associated with child labour:

 * The prevalence of AIDS throughout many developing countries has resulted in

an enormous number of orphans who are forced to become their own
breadwinners.

Child labour does more than deprive children of their
education and mental and physical development - their
childhood is stolen.

Immature and inexperienced child labourers may be

completely unaware of the short and long term risks involved
in their work.
Working long hours, child labourers are often denied a basic school education,
normal social interaction, personal development and emotional support from their
family. Beside these problems, children face many physical dangers - and death -
from forced labour:

* Exhaustion and malnutrition are a result of underdeveloped children performing

heavy manual labour, working long hours in unbearable conditions and not
earning enough to feed themselves adequately
• Child labour leaves deep marks and wounds that
will always be present in any child’s future life.
 UNICEF is the main NGO that work to fight the child labour and school absence
in Europe.

 UNICEF is committed to preventing and ending the

exploitation of children.

 To this end, the organization intends to assist countries in building a protective

environment for children- an environment that safeguards them from
exploitation and abuse before they happen.
Government meaures and efforts to fight
child labour in Europe:
 Child labor is a reality in spite of all the steps taken by the legal machinery to
eliminate it. It prevails and persists as a world phenomenon in spite of child labor
laws.

 The European efforts to reduce this problem, consist on making laws and finance
many ONGs such as UNICEF and ILO. Despite being symbolic efforts, all help is
welcome.

The existing law and codes of conduct regarding child labour are blatantly violated
by the beneficiaries and the victims of this terrible practice all over the developing
world
