When sugar is mixed with
water, the sugar seems to
disappear into the water.

This is a process called


dissolution.
Dissolution occurs when
two substances are mixed
together and the other
substance is completely
dissolved in liquid.
Solution is a mixture with
clear appearance. The other
substance is completely
dissolved.
Examples:
water and salt, water and sugar
In a solution, the molecules
of sugar did not really
disappear. It is dissolved
into the water that it can no
longer be seen.
SOLUTE
The solid material that is being
dissolved in water.
Examples:
soap, powdered juice, powdered
milk, chocolate powder
SOLVENT
The liquid material that dissolves
the solid material.
Example:
water
