ELECTROMAGNETIC EFFECTS

BY ALANOUD OBEIDAT
ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTIONAND THE GENERATOR:

 When a conductor is in a changing magnetic field a voltage will be induced in the conductor.
 The magnetic field can change if:

1. The conductor is moving into, or out of, a magnetic field

2. A magnet is moving towards or away from, the conductor
3. The magnetic field is being varied
INDUCTION:

 Current is produced in a conductor when it is moved through a magnetic field because the magnetic lines of force
are applying a force on the free electrons in the conductor causing them to move. This is called induction.
 This is called induction because there is no physical connection between the conductor and the magnet.
 The conductor must be perpenduicular to the magnetic lines of force in order to produce the maximum force on
the free electron.
FARADAYS LAW:

 Faradays law states that the magnitude of the induced emf is directly proportional to the rate of change f magnetic
flux linkage.
 How can the induced emf be increased:

1. Moving the wire faster

2. Using stronger magnets
3. Using more number of turns
 We can reverse the direction of the induced emf by:

1. Moving the wire in the opposite direction

2. By reversing the direction of the magnetic field
INCREASING THE EMF:

 Moving the magnetic faster

 Using a stronger magnet to increase the strength of the magnetic field
 Increasing the number of turns in the coil
 There will be no emf hence no current if the if the wire moves parallel to the magnetic field or if the wire or the
magnetic not moving
 The emf will be maximum when the field lines are cut at right angles
