 Present continuous
Form
 Formăm prezentul continuu cu verbul ”to be” ( am / is / are ) și verbul principal cu ”-ing” la sfârșit.
Be quiet. The baby is sleeping. Ben and Adam are watching TV.
 Într-o propoziție negativă, adăugăm ”not” după ”am /is / are”.
He is not listening to music. They are not working.
 Sunt două forme pentru ”is not” și ”are not”.
He isn’t listening to music. He’s not listening to music.
They aren’t working. They’re not working.
 În întrebări, punem ”am / is / are” înainte de subiect.
Are you doing your homework? Is Emma studying for her test?
 În răspunsuri scurte folosim doar verbul ”to be” și nu repetăm verbul principal.
A: Is she cooking dinner? B: Yes, she is.
 După cuvintele și frazele de întrebare precum : ”what, where, etc.” folosim forma interogativă a verbului.
What are they doing? (What they are doing?)
Use
 Folosim prezentul continuu pentru a vorbi despre:
 Ceva ce se întâmplă acum, în momentul vorbirii.
Listen! The birds are singing!
 Ceva ce se întâmplă pentru un timp scurt sau temporar.
Kevin is staying with his grandparents this month.
Time expressions
 Unele expresii de timp care sunt folosite cu prezentul continuu sunt : ”now, right now, at
the moment, today, these days, this week / month, etc.”
She’s doing her homework at the moment. He’s staying with us this week.
