DAY 1

Dolphins
What is this???

Dolphins are
mammals that live
in oceans all over
the world.

Dolphins
Dolphins

They often live in big groups. They are some

of the most intelligent animals in the sea.
Dolphins
Some pods
contain over
a hundred
dolphins.

A group of dolphins is
called a pod.
Learning to breathe

Dolphins breathe air, so when a baby

dolphin is born, its mother must
quickly push it to the surface of the
sea and teach it to breathe, or else it
will drown. Sometimes another dolphin
helps her do this.
Fun and Games

Their speed helps

them catch fish, but
they also love to play
and perform tricks.

Dolphins are fast swimmers and

amazing acrobats.
Fun and Games

This is
called spy
hopping.

These bottlenose dolphins are

taking a look around.
Using Echoes
Dolphins also
use sonar
to catch fish.
This is
called
sonar.

Dolphins find their way in the sea by

making sounds which send back
echoes.
DAY 2

Deep Sea
What is this???
Sharks are fish that live
in oceans all over the
world.

Great White Shark

SHARKS

There are more than 300 different kinds;

most are fierce hunters.
SHARKS

with sharp teeth for catching and killing

other animals.
GREAT WHITE SHARKS

Great white sharks like to

surprise their prey from below
and kill it with only one bite, to
save energy.
GREAT WHITE SHARKS

Great white sharks kill their prey

by biting it.
GREAT WHITE SHARKS

As their mouths open, their teeth

point forward.
WHALE SHARKS
Whale sharks
are the world’s
biggest fish.
They can grow
up to

40 FEET LONG!!
HAMMERHEAD
Hammerhead
sharks have
eyes on each
end of a long,
flat head.

This helps them to see all

around as they swim.
TIGER SHARKS

Teeth
point back so
that fish it
catches can’t
wiggle free.
FIN SHAPES

A common dolphin has a

small, gently curved fin
FIN SHAPES

BLUE WHALE
WHALES

Mammals can’t breathe

underwater, so whales come
to the ocean’s surface to
breathe.
WHALES

They breathe through holes called

blowholes on top of
