2nd. Lecture: Classification of Mining Methods:
Classification of Mining Methods:

The mining methods can be classified into the following classes:

FIRST: Surface Mining Methods:

These are divided into the following subclasses:


I- Placer Mining: Which includes the following methods:

A- Panning and Sluicing. B-Hydraulicking.

C-Dredging

II- Open Pit Mining: Which includes the following methods: A- Single-Bench

method.

B-Multi-Bench method.

C-Strip mining.

D- Quarry mining.
SECOND: Underground Mining Methods:
These include the following subclasses:

I- Self-Supporting Openings: Which include the following methods:

A- Open-Stope Mining: Which includes the following: 1- Isolated openings.


2- Pillared Open Stopes: Which include:

i- Open Stoping With Random Pillars. ii-Open Stoping

With Regular Pillars.

B- R oom – and – Pillar Mining. C-Sublevel Stoping.

D- Stull Stoping. E-Shrinkag

Stoping.

II- Supported Openings: These include the following classes: A- Cut-and-Fill Stoping.
B- Square-Set-and-Fill Stoping.

C- Long-wall Mining.
D- Short-wall Mining.

E-Top Slicing.

III- Caving Methods: These include the following classes:

A- Sublevel Caving.

B-Block and Panel Caving.

THIRD: Special Mining Methods:

These could also be called:

*- Solution Mining Methods or *- Non-Entry Mining Methods

Mineral Deposits and Their Mining Methods:

Mineral deposits and ores occur in different forms and shapes at the earth
surface or near to it and also at depths under the earth surface.
