ELECTRICAL ESTIMATION AND COSTING

 DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS

 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION OF BUILDINGS AND SMALL INDUSTRIES
 OVERHEAD AND UNDERGROUND TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION
LINES
 SUBSTATIONS
 DESIGN OF ILLUMINATION SCHEMES
General I.E Rules while preparing the internal wiring
 The meter board, main switch and distribution
board are to be kept at a height of 2m from floor level.
 The switch board should be kept at a height of
1.5m from floor level.
 The height at which conduit run on the wall may be 3m
from ground level.
 The conductor used is to be of such a size it should
carry load current safely. The minimum size of
conductor cable used is 1/1.12mm (1.0 mm2) for
copper and 1/1.40mm (1.5mm2 ) for aluminium
conductor.
 Every sub circuit is to be connected to a distribution
fuse board.
 The load on each sub circuit is to be restricted to
800Watts.
 Each sub- circuit is not to have more than total of 10
points of lights , fans and lighting socket outlets.
 The load on each power sub circuit is should not
exceed 3000Watts.
 Suitable number of socket-outlets are to be provided at
a suitable place in all rooms and one or two 3-pin, 15A
socket outlets are to be provided in kitchen.
 Allbatten holders from incandescent lamps
are provided at height of 3.0m from floor level.
 The clearance between bottom of a ceiling fan
and pendent holder and floor should be 2.75m.
 Allthe sub-circuits should have its own
continuous earth wire.
 The distance between ceiling and horizontal run
may be taken as 0.25 to 0.5m.
Steps to process of internal wiring
Before proceed to internal wiring scheme, it is
necessary for electrical engineer to go through the
plan, total points and their location.
 Determination of number of sub circuits.
 Determination of size of the conductor,
main switch and distribution board.
 Determination of size and length of the conduit.
 Determination of length of the conductor cable.
 Determination of earth wire.

Number Of Sub Circuits : (Contd..)

• Total load per sub-circuit can be 800 W or maximum

points that can be added are 10
• Total load per power-circuit can be 3000 W or
maximum
points that can be added are 2

Size of conductor :
- size of conductor depends on the amount of
current to be carried
- Current to be carried = power / voltage
- Normal size of conductor for house wiring is
1.5mm2 1/1.15 mm Cu cable or 1
/ 1.4 mm Al cable 14
.

• Estimate the quantity of material and the cost

required for the building whose plan is shown
in fig-1 , in PVC surface conduit wiring.

=2.43 A
From current rating tables the size of the conductor selected
is 1.5 mm2 ( 1 / 1.4mm) PVC cable

For power load :

Load current = Total wattage /
voltage
=1000/230
=4.34 A
From current rating tables the size of the conductor selected
is 2.5 mm2 ( 1 / 1.8mm) PVC cable
