Abstract:

• Efficiency of engineering projects measured by the ratio between the

inputs and the outputs gained. One of the most dominant factors on ship
performance and economic efficiency is the resistance. To improve ship
performance and economic efficiency, resistance is to be reduced.
Resistance of a ship is influenced by many factors such as….,…,…; this study
is focusing on the most important factor which is the type of the bow of
the ship.

4
Introduction:
• Nowadays, various researches have been conducted in the field of ship
design which aim to improve optimum results ………………………
• Optimum performance achieved by sailing in various and bad sea states.
Besides, optimum economic efficiency means ………………….
• Ships with a good bow will provide the efficiency of the resulting barriers
so that ship operations and ship movements become better (Chrismianto,
et.al, 2014).
• One way to reduce ship resistance is to install bulbous. Bulbous bow types
of interest (description)………………..
• Currently the concept of Ulstein X-Bow has arisen to reduce fuel
consumption and enhance the performance of the ship.(description).
• The purpose of this study was to obtain and compare the total resistance
of ships using Ulstein X-Bow and bulbous bow (tapering bulb and spherical
bulb) with the calculation of CFD method…………………. 5
Methodology:
1. Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD):
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is an analysis system that includes fluid flow, heat transfer,
and related phenomena. Etc.
Programs used in this study were:
2. Ship specifications ( table of all main dimensions of the ship used ).
3. Modelling with CAD Software. (steps of modeling and testing with required figures).
First, From the main dimension data of the ship model, the ship body modelling was made
with the help of CAD Modeler.
Second, Ship model making also uses CAD 3D software so that it can be opened in CFD
software. ………………..etc.
4. Limitations.
using the CFD programs to analyze the performance of the model has been very useful,
however many limitations …………………………..
5. Validation of the results.
The results conducted from the CFD analysis is validated by ………….. 6
Results and discussion:
• Results extracted from CFD analysis for the three different bows were
(table including the results) (charts of resistance and powering curves)
• Comparing the results of each model with the results of the conventional
bow model the reduction of resistance can be observed…..
• Generally, the use of bulbous bow or x-bow leads to reduction in the total
resistance of the ship …………….
• But comparing the results of bulbous bow and x-bow shows that x-bow
reducing the resistance with greater amount due to…………..

7
Conclusion:
• Based on the experiments and simulations that have been done, it can be
concluded that of the three variations of the model, the lowest resistance
value occurs in ……………, namely the total coefficient of ………. and the total
resistance value of ………. kN.
• Whereas for model 1 and model 2 produce a total coefficient value of
………. and ………., respectively. With the total resistance value of model 1 is
………. kN and the total resistance value of model 2 is ………. kN.
• As shown here , it is clear that x-bow is the best to be used from resistance
point of view, however many other factors is to be considered for the
determination of type of the bow such as,…………….,……………..,………..
• The choice of the best bow type depends on optimum combination of
these factors in order to achieve the optimum performance and economic
efficiency.
