THEORY
• Active Learning Theory refers to the ability
for learners to construct or built their own
understanding of particular concepts or topics.
It works by making meaning, enabling
learners to develop understanding in different
stages
INVENTORS

• This idea was Invented by the philosopher


Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712–1778). It
influenced numerous educators in the early
20th century such as John Dewey (1859–
1952) and Maria Montessori (1870–1952).
PURPOSE
• To promotes recall and deeper understanding
of material, as students are engaging with the
content rather than simply listening to it.
• To helps students to become 'lifelong learners
ELEMENT
• ACTIVE LEARNING Involves four basic
elements which can take place individually, in
pairs, or in small or collaborative groups. The
inclusion of these four elements make active
learning especially well suited to
interdisciplinary studies. The four elements
include:
• talking and listening
• writing
• reading
• and reflecting
MATERIALS
• The material is taken from anything, such as
textbooks, mass media, television, radio, and
others.
ACTIVITY
• Role-playing
• Case studies
• Group projects
• Think-pair-share
• Peer teaching
• Debates
• Just-in-Time Teaching
• and Short demonstrations followed by class
discussion.
BENEFITS
• Develops collaborative skills
• Encourages risk taking
• Requires student preparation
• Increases engagement
• Improves critical thinking
• Fosters real problem solving
DISADVANTAGES
• Require more spontaneous and flexible lesson
plans.
• Limit the amount of material that can be
presented at once.
• Create the potential for distractions if students
are not monitored.
