DEFINATION :
 patient counseling is an approach that focuses on
enhancing the problem solving skill of patient for the
purpose to improve or maintaining the quality of health
and life.
OBJECTIVE/OUTCOMES :

 Good communication skill are needed to gain patient


confidence and to help motivate the patient to adhere to
the recommended regimen.
 Better patient understanding to their illness and role of
medication.
 Improve medication adherence.

 Patient should recognize the importance of medication


for his well being.
OBJECTIVE/OUTCOMES :

 A working relationship and a foundation for continuous


interaction and consultation should be established.
 Patient's understanding of strategies to deal with
medication side effects and drug interactions should be
improved.
 Should ensure better patient compliance.
 Patient becomes an informed, efficient and active
participant in disease treatment and self care
management.
OBJECTIVE/OUTCOMES :

 The pharmacist should be perceived as a professional who offers


pharmaceutical care.
 Drug interactions and adverse drug reactions should be prevented.
 Reducing medication errors
 Increasing patients’ understanding and management of their
medical condition
 Minimizing incidence of adverse drug reactions and drug-drug
interactions
 Improving patient outcomes and satisfaction with care.
