Karen Horney defines self as “that central inner force, common to


all human beings and yet unique in each, which is the deep source of
growth.

• a learned predisposition to respond to a person, object or an


idea in a favorable or unfavorable way
BELIEFS

• the way in which you structure your understanding of


reality - what is true and what is false.
• 2 types:
• Core belief - a belief that people have actively engaged in and created over the
course of their lives.

• Dispositional belief - a belief that people have not actively engaged in but rather
judgments that they make, based on their knowledge of related subjects, when they
encounter a proposition.
VALUES

• are enduring concepts of good and bad, right and wrong.


• an individual’s perception of the usefulness, importance, or worth of
something.
