 What is Previeweing?

• A pre-reading skill by which the reader tries to gather as much

information about the text as he/she can before reading it.

• General picture of the text.

• It mentally prepares readers to receive information from written

materials.

How to Preview
Your Textbook?
 Steps:
1. List the title of the text.
2. List the author(s)
3. What is the text’s most recent copyright date?
4. Read the preface or introduction. Summarized in a few sentences
what the book is going to be about.

6. Read the table of contents.
7. Thumb through the book. Are there pictures? Graphics?
8. Evaluate the difficulty of the text.
9. Know your purpose for reading the text.
10. Go to the back of the book to see what aids are included.

 Tips on Concentration

• Studying in a quiet place is more beneficial than being

surrounded by music or other noise.
• Make your “office” a study center.
• Good lighting and ventilation.
• You will concentrate better if you have only time before
you study at a time; too many tasks may overwhelm you.
