Shakespeare’s career as a

playwright
Shakespeare’s life
• William  Shakespeare, born Bard of Avon or Swan of Avon, was born and baptized on April 26, 1564
in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England. Shakespeare was born to John Shakespeare and
Mary Arden, of Wilmcote, Warwickshire. Shakespeare’s father was selected to be the alderman of
Warwickshire in 1565 and later bailiff in 1568. Shakespeare’s mother descended from a long-running
family and it is believed that this  might have helped John Shakespeare in his social climb. It is
believed that Shakespeare attended the grammar school of Stratford which provided quality and free
education. The schoolmaster was  remunerated by the municipality. Shakespeare learned how to read
and write as well as speak the Latin language at the grammar school. Shakespeare also learned about
a quantity of the classical writers of history, puritans and litterateurs. Shakespeare did not attend
university but instead went on to marry Anne Hathaway at the age of 18.  Shakespeare had 3
children with Anne Hathaway and they were Susanna, Hamnet and Judith. Judith and Hamnet were
born as twins on February 2, 1585(Hamnet died 11 years later, being Shakespeare’s only son ever)
and Susanna was born on May 26, 1583.
