INTRODUCTION:

Generally, all students in a class wiIl not be


same they will differ in their physical and
psychological traits as well as in behaviour.
Some may be gifted children, most others are
average in their learning ability and Few
others may be slow learners or suffering from
learning disabilities, or belong to marginalized
sections of the society or having different
religious faiths

CONCEPT OF DIVERSITY

• Diversity means a group with variety or a


group with dissimilar elements.
• Social Diversity means people living in a
community with a particular culture, differ
among themselves in many ways.
• Diversity in Classroom or Classroom with
Diverse Learners refers to an inclusive
classroom consisting of diverse students

Definition of Diverse
Classrooms
Diverse classroom is defined as the one in
which students will be differ in their physical
& psychological traits, socio-economic status
and learning abilities. In diverse classrooms
consists of different kinds of teaching and
learning activities.
TYPES OF DIVERSITY IN THE
CLASSROOMS
• Student background.
• Cognitive attitude.
• Different levels of motivation for learning among
students.
• Learning difficulties.
• Diversity in students faith and ideas.
• Diversity in life style.
• Awareness about cultural differences.

Teaching in a Diverse Classroom
In a diverse class, teachers
instructional activities should be such
that they fulfill the learning needs of all
students.
Three important aspects in this
method of teaching:

• Differentiating Content to be Learned.


• Differentiating Learning Processes.
• using Different Methods for Evaluating
Learning
Differentiating Content to be Learned
It means the knowledge and concepts in
different topics of the curriculum, practical skills
and positive attitudes to be developed.
Differentiating Learning Processes

• Learning process denotes how students know


and understand the subject content.
• Students reflection is needed for internalizing
what they have learned.
• learning activities are helpful for reflective
thinking such as Workshop, Group Learning,
utilizing the Learning Resource Centers etc.
Using Different Methods for Evaluating
Learning
• In different types of learning activities all students can
learn meaningfully what they Ilearn
• It is also necessary for the teacher to employ different
methods for evaluating students' learning
achievement.
• Teacher can adopt novel methods of evaluation such
as Quiz Programme, Objective type test , project work
• The evaluate activities like assignment, project work,
participation in learning tasks.

• Teacher can compare student's evaluation with
his own evaluation and finalize the evaluation of
each student's learning achievement.
• By adopting this method, not only students'
mastery of the subject content, but also their
social skills, participation in learning activities
and several other aspects are subjected to
evaluation.
CONCLUSION
In a diverse classroom, the teacher is able to
satisfy the learning needs of different categories
of students by employing differential strategies
and techniques in all the three stages of
imparting education to students. It also fixing
the learning content to be provided, analyzing
the learning process and evaluating students
learning achievement.
