What is conservation in museum?
• The conservation of museum collections is a vital endeavor in the recovery, protection, and
advocacy of the past.
• The protection of items that are removed from their primary context, and the information
associated with that context, is part of the museum's role as a guardian of the past.

In 1966, at the UNESCO regional seminar on the development of museums in India, with a major focus on
conservation of art in museums, the Indian Association for the Study of Conservation of Cultural Property (IASC)
was formed
Preventive conservation is an important element of museum policy and collection care.
Curative conservation refers to any act by a conservator that involves a direct interaction
between the conservator and the cultural material.
Interventive conservation refers to any direct interaction between the conservator and the
material fabric of the object.
Remedial conservation involves the treatment of objects from the collections and is extremely
time consuming.

The conservation centre is continually improving its facilities and competencies to implement
preventive and remedial conservation of contemporary, artistic and historic works as,
