Introduction
• Health hazards are chemical, physical or biological factors in
our environment that have negative impacts on our short- or
long-term health. Exposure can occur through touch, inhalation,
and ingestion. Understanding the risks of these hazards can help
us to take action to avoid these risks.
Chemical hazards
• A chemical hazard is a type of hazard caused by exposure to chemicals in the
workplace. Exposure to chemicals can cause acute or long-term detrimental
health effects.
• Tobacco smoke and lead are both chemicals that have destructive properties.
Lead is a highly poisonous metal, affecting almost every organ and system in
the human body. Inhalation affects smokers and especially workers in lead-
related occupations. Tobacco smoke contains a number of toxicologically
significant chemicals, produced by the incomplete combustion of tobacco
during the smoking of cigarettes.
Physical hazards
• A physical hazard is an agent, factor or circumstance that can cause harm
with contact. They are a common source of injuries in many industries.
They are perhaps unavoidable in certain industries, such as construction
and mining, but over time people have developed safety methods and
procedures to manage the risks of physical danger in the workplace.
Biological health hazards
• Biological health hazards include bacteria, viruses, parasites and moulds
or fungi. They can pose a threat to human health when they are inhaled,
eaten or come in contact with skin. They can cause illness such as food
poisoning, respiratory infections or parasite infection.
• Covid-19, for example, is a well-known biological health hazard. While
most people have mild symptoms, some people develop acute respiratory
distress syndrome (ARDS).
Conclusion:
• In summary, I believe that people should inform themselves and
should pay more attention to the potential health hazards. We
should try to find safe ways to prevent them from affecting us,
such as following quarantine rules, being careful when carrying
heavy objects and not ingesting chemical substances.
