Introduction to principle of landscape
design
 A design that is visually pleasing, functional, and environmentally
sustainable. Scale, balance, unity, viewpoint, rhythm, and accent are all
important aspects of design development. Simplicity, repetition, line,
diversity, and harmony are among the structuring principles. These ideas
are used to apply design concepts to landscape components such as plants
and hardscape materials.
Unity
 Linking components and aspects to produce a consistent character
in the composition is how unity is achieved.

 In monochromatic color scheme Repetitive grouping are not boring

use light to dark for variation. but rather lead to some unity.
Interconnectedness
• To arrange colors, textures, and shape, dominance, interconnectedness,
unity of three and simplicity are used.
• Although similar qualities can be used to bring hardscapes and plants
together, variation is also necessary to keep things interesting
• The most straightforward technique to achieve unity is to employ a design
theme or style.
SIMPLICITY BRINGS UNITY

 Simplicity is the idea of removing or decreasing non-essentials in order to

avoid a cluttered appearance. Many designers achieve simplicity by
deleting aspects from a design while keeping its essence intact.
THREE-PART UNITY

 Odd numbers give for extra intrigue by allowing for staggered height
variations, such as tiny, medium, and huge. Even numbers are easier to
separate or visually divide than odd numbers, which are commonly seen or
interpreted as a group.
INTERCONNECTION BRINGS UNITY

 Interconnection is vital since landscape is used to organize and link

locations in the landscape. The interconnection of a line, such as a road, the
edge of a built object, or a specified edge of a plant bed, can generate unity.
DOMINANCE BY UNITY

• The trait of a plant or thing that grabs and holds attention, making it an
essential feature, is called dominance or emphasis.
• The ability of an object to attract attention is usually determined by how
well it contrasts with nearby objects. A very vividly colored ceramic pot
among green vegetation is a typical illustration for a garden.
Variety
 Shape, size and form selections should be diverse in order
to create visual interest
Cont.d
 Variety in a design avoids boredom by avoiding homogeneity. Adding
pieces with opposing traits or contrast promotes visual appeal and
enjoyment with the design.
 of successful landscape design is the variety provided by opposing forms,
textures, and colors.
Cont.d
 If you're building a new house or have recently purchased a fixer-upper,
you may be faced with some significant yard decisions. It can be tempting
to go the "easy" path and simply lay down a carpet of grass, add a few of
your favorite shrubs, and call it a day. However, you won't get a very
appealing result this way, and you might be missing out on a chance to
increase the value of your home. A more diversified landscaping plan is
recommended for every yard for various reasons.
