Ethics of Communication
The first means of persuasion discussed by Aristotle is “Ethos” or
ethical proof. Sometimes described as persuasion by the moral force
and “Character” of the speaker as perceived by the listener. Modern
studies of ethos have very often focused on four components of
credibility: expertness, trustworthiness, dynamism and sometimes
sociability.

States that “ethical communication enhances
human worth and dignity by fostering
truthfulness, fairness, responsibility, personal
integrity, and respect for self and other”. Thus,
ethical communication takes into account caring
and responsibility for oneself and others.
PRINCIPLES OF
ETHICAL
COMMUNICATION
Condemn communication that degrades
individuals and humanity through
distortion, intolerance, intimidation,
coercion, hatred and violence.
Ethic of Care Ethic of Responsibility
focuses on relationships,
nurturing others,
demonstrating a concern for
multiple viewpoints and focuses on the outcomes of
expressing support. communicator’s actions.
CONCLUSION
Ethical communication in organization
requires effective critical thinking skills;
recognizing the importance of diverse
perspectives; respect for the well being
of self and others; taking responsibility
for individual team and organizational
actions; and reflecting on the choices
organization members make.
