Maturation- Remodelling Day 4 Week 6 2- 3 yrs Inflammatory response phase Starts following injury Most critical phase The destruction of tissues causes direct injury to the cells pf the various soft tissues. Phagocytic cells Injured cells release chemicals that facilitate healing process Redness, swelling, tenderness, increased tempratur, and loss of function. Lasts 2 to 4 days Fibroblastic repair phase Scar formation The period of scar formation is referred to as fibroplasia Begins within first few hours following injury and may lasts for as long as 4 to 6 weeks. Tenderness , pain in some movements Maturation – remodelling phase Long term process Realignment and remodelling of the scar tissue. The collagen fibres that make up the scar realign in a position of maximum efficiency. May require several years to complete
