QUESTION 10
This was spoken when Mother Mary and St Joseph took baby
Jesus somewhere when he was 8 days old.
ary and in the upper room with Christ’s disciples. - Simeon had said to Mary, “a sword shall pierce through your own soul
also, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed”. Had that sword had finally pierced through Mary’s soul?
Ephesians 6:17 says “the sword of the Spirit… is the Word of God”. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the Word of God is quick,
and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the
joints and marrow, and is a discerner [revealer] of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Simeon said that sword would
“reveal the thoughts of many hearts”.
Yes, Mary had finally experienced that “Sword”, that Word in living flesh, as she stood by the cross of her son. While she
watched, the Incarnate Word of God uncovered and revealed her heart’s most secret thoughts. His Truth was piercing
through her own soul also. She was humbled far beyond her natural humility. She confessed and surrendered to him the
uncovered areas of her heart, soul, and mind. She had spoken long ago of “God her Savior”. Now, as he hung from a
cross, her God became her Savior. She too “fell and rose again”; and her salvation was complete.
