THE SIN OF FAMILIARITY

1. JESUS DEALT WITH THIS WICKED SIN

MATT 13:53-58

A. He taught them in their churches.

B. He was in His own town.

C. They were astonished at His teachings.

(1) Vs. 54b “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works?”

D. They began to equalize Him. That is, they tried to make Him merely one of them.

(1) Vs. 55 “Don’t we know His sisters, brothers, and parents. He couldn’t be
as anointed as He claims because we 'know' him.”

E. Vs. 57 “ . . . they were offended at Him.”

(1) They went from astonished to offended in one sermon.

F. Vs. 58 Jesus could do almost no miracles for them because of this “sin of
familiarity.”

2. A PROPHET WITHOUT HONOR

MATT 10:41

A. The name of a prophet.

(1) If you don’t receive the man in his own name, you won’t receive what he is
delivering to you from Heaven.

B. The reward of a prophet.

(1) This is twofold:

• First, it refers to the heavenly reward he will receive by Christ and your being
a partner in that.

• Second, it refers to the anointing and the message that the prophet has for you,
now in this time on the earth, in this life.
