 WHAT IS AN INSTRUCTIVE TEXT?
 Instructive texts are also known as procedural texts. It instructs
your audience on how to complete a specific task.  Instructive
texts tell you

 Keep everything organized and in order

 Subheadings such as materials, what to do next, warnings indicate the stages of the

STRUCTURE procedure.

 SEQUENCE
 Everything is organized in the sequence it is to occur and each new step must begin on a
new line.

 VISUALS
 Greatly enhance a procedural text and reinforce technical instructions. Maps, diagrams
and photos are essential.

 Use technical and specialized terms in

 Sequence Words  Link.

A. Read the instructions for making ice cream. Number the steps 1 to 5 and
underline the words that show the order.

B. Sort the sequence words into groups.

Activity #2 C. 'Once' and 'when' introduce clauses. That means they need to be followed
by a subject and a verb. Reorder the words in brackets to form 'Once' and
'When' clauses.

D. D. Complete the instructions with sequencing words from the worksheet.

E. Write your own instructions for any procedure you like, using the
sequence words provided.
