The analysis of the sidewalk level of service for the walkways uses the calculation of pedestrians per minute per foot (ped/min/ft) as the basis for
LOS
classification (see Table 2.1.)
The pedestrian unit flow rate (ped/min/ft) is obtained by taking the pedestrian 15-minute flow rate (ped/15- min) and dividing by the effective
walkway width.
The Highway Capacity Manual of New York suggests collecting pedestrian opposing flow volumes at 15-minute intervals. The sum of the two
directional flows is used as the 15-minute flow rate.
The objective is to count the number of pedestrians that passed thru the chosen walkway within 15-minute observation and measure the
effective width of the walkway for the computation of the Flow Rate:
Site Location:
Width of the
Time Elapsed Flowrate
No. of Walkway
Date Time Started Time Ended Pedestrians
Passed
Minutes ft ped/min/ft
Conclusion:
Based on the flowrate resulting to 0.61 ped/min/ft,
the evaluators conclude that the Level of Service
of the Walkway leading to SM Center Pasig along
Eulogio Rodriguez Avenue at 12:30 to 12:45 pm
falls under Level of Service A.
