WE USE THE SIMPLE PRESENT

The simple present (also called present


simple or present indefinite) is a verb tense
which is used to show repetition, habit or
generalization.
“Many people use the internet” “

“I go to school every day”

“I love music”

“The film starts at half past six”


In the negative and interrogative form, we need
auxiliaries: DO AND DOES.
Examples:
◦ She doesn’t drive
◦ Mr. and Mrs. Smith don’t have a car.
◦ I don’t work on Sundays
◦ Do you like music?
◦ Where does the lawyer live?
◦ Does Your sister sing in English?
When the subject is 3rd person singular (he, she it) we
add “S” at the end of the verbs, but some verbs have the
next rules.

PRESENT EXPRESSIONS
 Every day (todos los dias);
 Once a week (una vez a la semana);
 Twice a month (dos veces al mes);
 In the evenings (por las tardes);
 On mondays (los lunes)
Examples:
 “Henry workS in the evenings”
 “I eat fish and chips”once a week
FREQUENCY ADVERBS
Look at where they are
 “I always go to the beach”
 “I am sometimes generous”
◦ Some adverbs:
 Always (siempre);
 Sometimes (a veces);
 Usually (normalmente);
 Often (frecuentemente);
 Never (nunca)
PRESENTE PROGRESSIVE
 The present progressive is formed by
combining the verb “to be” with the present
participle. (The present participle is merely
the “-ing” form of a verb.)
 InEnglish, present progressive can be
used to describe what is happening now.
 AFFIRMATIVE- I´m writing now
 NEGATIVE- I am not writing now
 INTERROGATIVE- Am I writing now?
SOME EXPRESSIONS

 Now – ahora
 At the moment – en este momento
 Right now – ahora mismo
 Today – hoy
 This week – esta semana
STATE VERBS: NO IN
POGRESSIVE.
Love (amar), like (gustar), hate (odiar), want
(querer)

Think (creer), remember (recordar), know


(saber), understand (entender), believe
(creer), feel (sentir), hope (esperar)

Own (poseer), see (ver), hear (oír)
