INTRODUCTION

• Wrestling is a combat sport involving grappling-type techniques such as clinch

fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds.
• Wrestling comes in different types such as folkstyle, freestyle, Greco-Roman, catch, submission,
judo, sambo and others. A wrestling bout is a physical competition, between two (occasionally
more) competitors or sparring partners, who attempt to gain and maintain a superior position.
• There are a wide range of styles with varying rules with both traditional historic and modern
styles.
• Freestyle wrestling is the most popular form of the sport throughout the world. In freestyle, the
wrestler is permitted to use his entire body in the execution of any of the permitted techniques.
Holds of the opponent, including the use of the legs and the tripping of an opponent, are a part
of freestyle.

1
• Wrestling in all of its forms is a demanding and highly athletic sport. As with many sports where
physical strength and size are important competitive factors, wrestling competitions are divided
into specific weight categories.
• Wrestling training must be comprehensive to produce a successful athlete, and all of the
traditional attributes of complete physical fitness are engaged in the sport: strength, power,
speed, flexibility, and endurance.
• The primal nature of wrestling, and the requirement that a single opponent be conquered, also
demands the development of a very rigorous mental approach to training and competition and
anthropometric characteristics.

2
• One of the most important factors that determine a coach’s success is the
ability to predict the general performance of a wrestler. As a result, for
progress in wrestling, it is necessary that all the anthropometric variables,
physical fitness and psychological characteristics be evaluated.
• So far, there are insufficient studies that have investigated the relationship
of anthropometric, physical fitness and psychological characteristics with
performance of wrestlers. Since the information regarding top level
freestyle wrestlers is limited (in terms of anthropometric variables, physical
fitness and psychological variables), no distinct criterion or norm is
available for coaches and athletes to predict competitive success of
wrestlers. The results of the present study will provide useful information
to identify important factors involved in the process of talent identification
for freestyle wrestling.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

• "Study of Anthropometric Variables Physical Fitness and Psychological Variables

in relation to the Performance among male Wrestlers”

4
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
1. To study the Game Performance of Wrestlers of Freestyle Wrestlers.
2. To study the relationship between the selected Anthropometric Variables and Wrestling
Performance among Freestyle Wrestlers.
3. To know the differences in the Anthropometric variables due to variations in the wrestlers of
different weight categories that is low, moderate and heavy weights.
4. To identify the predictive correlates of Wrestlers Performance by including anthropometric
variables.
5. To study the relationship between the selected Physical Fitness Variables and Wrestling
Performance among Freestyle Wrestlers.
6. To know the differences in the Physical Fitness variables due to variations in the wrestlers of
different weight categories that is low, moderate and heavy weights.
