WHAT IS CONTEMPORARY
MUSIC IN THE PHILIPPINES?
 Usually refers to compositions that have adopted ideas
and elements from twentieth century art music in the
West, as well as the latest trends and musical styles in
the entertainment industry.
 Modern Filipino repertoire consist of pieces that have
been written in twentieth century idioms that have
evolved out of such stylistic movements as
impressionism, expressionism, neo-classism, as well as
the so-called avant-garde and new music.

 According to wikipedia Francisco Santiago, born
in January 29, 1889 Santa Maria, Bulacan,
Bulacan, Captaincy General of the Philippines
and died September 28, 1947 at the age of 58
was the father of contemporary music.
VOCAL RANGE
 Refers to the full spectrum of notes that a singer’s voice
is able to produce, starting from the bottommost note
and reaching to the uppermost note.
 Refers to the distance between the highest and lowest
pitch that a singer can sing.

 It how we identify the difference between the quality of
tone of one instrument/voice from another.
