What is
Literature?
LITERATURE means
•Is any collection of written work,
but mere highlights as a writing
specifically considered to be an
art especially in a form of prose
fiction, drama and poetry.
LITERATURE means
• Literature is a method of
recording, preserving, transmitting
knowledge and entertainment and
can have social, psychological,
spiritual and political role.
LITERATURE means
•The term derives from Latin “
literature/litteratura” which
simply means writing form with
letter, grammar and learning.
•In ancient history we have the so
called oral literature and later on
transcribe.

PROSE
•Is made up of sentences and
paragraph without any metrical
(or rhyming structure

POETRY
•Written in lines and
stanzas instead of
sentences and paragraphs.
Definitions:
DRAMA
•Is a piece of writing that tells
story; it is performed on a
stage and uses dialogue.
Similarities of Poetry, Prose and Drama
• All three can be a form of
entertainment
• Used to express feelings and ideas.
• Effective if read and deliver loud.
• Can follow rules or be absolutely
lawless in their form.
