A sentence is a group of words
expressing a complete thought. In
order to express a complete
thought, a sentence must have a
subject and a predicate.
THE SUBJECT
The subject of a sentence is the part about which
something is being said.
1. A line of people waited to see the movie.
2. Standing in line were several workers.
One can usually locate the subject by asking Who?
or What?
Complete subjects: A line of people; several workers
Simple subjects:(main word in the complete
subject) people; workers
THE PREDICATE
The predicate of a sentence is the part that says
something about the subject.
1. Robert Ludlum wrote several books.
2. My whole family heard Martin Nievera sing.
3. On either side of me were my two friends.

To find the predicate in the sentence, ask, What is

being said about the subject? or What happened?
