Terminology changes

• The university system, Campus, uses slightly different descriptive

names for studied elements:
•What is known as a Course Programme, is a Plan
•What is known as a Module, is a Course
• Module (course) codes take the format MMME0000 where the 1st four
characters denote the school or department and the 1st digit the
module (course) level

Calendar of events

• Pre-enrolment online opens sometime after you get your results on

Bluecastle 8th July
• Student Services will contact you with you details regarding opening
and closure of the enrolment and instructions on how to enter the
selection
• Whilst pre-enrolment will be open for approximately 1 week, please
complete your selection as soon as possible within this period so
that any difficulties you encounter can be addressed
• Pre-enrolment will be undertaken within the
Campus Solutions/MyNottingham portal
Autumn/Spring Semester Credit Splits

• Normally 60:60 split

• Autumn semester has 40 credits of compulsory modules (courses)
• Spring semester has 40 credits of compulsory modules (courses)
• 50:70 and 70:50 splits are acceptable;
40:80 and 80:40, or worse are not.
This is a university regulation and it is your responsibility to check each
semester has the correct number of credits.
• WARNING: you cannot drop a module if you find 70 credits in autumn too
much once you are committed to it.

Which modules may I select?

• You need to follow the Programme Plan to graduate on the

accredited degree
• Note the responsibility is ultimately yours to ensure you have an
approved accredited degree content
• The Mechanical Engineering Programme Plans are available online

How to see contents of modules on Moodle

• All students in engineering have observer access for the current

year’s engineering modules
• To see a module - go to ‘Site home’
• Enter the module code or a title
keyword in the search box or navigate via

BEng, with the compulsory modules (courses) covering
80 of the 120 credits, 40 credits in each semester
• Compulsory 80 credits as follows:
• MMME3036 Computer Modelling Techniques:
20 credits Autumn
• MMME3049 Engineering Management:
20 credits Spring
• MMME3083 Individual Project:
20 credits Autumn and 20 credits Spring
BEng and MEng

• All students may select the remaining credits up to a maximum of

120 credits from the remaining modules listed
• And, within the 120 credits total, 20 credits may be taken, by
prior agreement with the modules convenor and with the year 3
lead for the BEng (David Hann), from the following departments:
mathematics (some modules available specifically for engineers),
