FARADIC FOOT BATH

FARADIC FOOT BATH:

 Application of faradic current to the body parts in
a TUB,TRAY or TANK…containing water is termed
as BATH METHOD OF APPLICATION.
 Depending upon the placement of electrodes bath
can be-
1. BIPOLAR- Both electrodes are kept in water.
2. UNIPOLAR- One electrode kept in water
while the other electrode kept at any convenient
part of the body.
*PRINCIPLE:-
 Place the ions under the electrode
with the same charge i.e., Negative
ions, Place under the cathode and
positive ions under anode. The
Electrode under which ions are
placed is called…ACTIVE
ELECTRODE.

 Wash of Electrolytes formed
under the Electrodes.
*APPARATUS:-
1:- ELECTRICAL STIMULATOR

2:- ELECTRODES

3:- ELECTRODE LEADS

4:- TUB / TRAY / TANK…. FILLED WITH

WATER
5:- RUBBER SHEET
METHOD OF APPLICATION:-
1. POSITION OF PATIENT:-
 Patient should be in high sitting.
 Hip and knee should be at 90 degree.
 Back should be well supported.
 Patient should be made to sit on a
plastic or a wooden stool with his or
her foot in a bath(TUB OR TRAY),
containing enough warm water to cover
the foot.
2.POSITION OF THERAPIST

 Sitting on a low level height stool in

front of the patient or on either side.
 But should be free to reach apparatus
and handling dials of the apparatus
as well as reaching the patient’s foot
without any difficulty.
FARADIC FOOT BATH:-
 Can be used to stimulate:-

1. LUMBRICALS- To stimulate lumbricals,

place two electrodes transversely,
- Passive electrode under the heel and the
- Active electrode under the metatarsal heads
FARADIC FOOT BATH:-

2. PLANTAR INTEROSSEI:-To stimulate

plantar interossei, place both active and
passive electrode on each side of the foot
at the level of metatarsal shafts.
FARADIC FOOT BATH:-
3. ABDUCTOR HALLUCIS:-
-Passive electrode under the heel
and

- Active electrode, the pen type is

placed over the motor point of
abductor hallucis over the medial
aspect of the heel.
DOSAGE:-
1. Average adult- The dosage is 12 mA
for 12 min.

2. Child- The dosage should be half of

that of average adult’s dosage.
PARAMETERS:-
1. PULSE DURATIONS:
~ 150-250 micro seconds(for small
muscles).
~ 200-350 micro seconds(for large
muscles).

2. FREQUENCY:
~ 35-50 pulse per second
3. AMPILTUDE:
~ Sufficient for functional activity.
