 On December 8th 1980 John Lennon was shot by Mark Chapman 4 times
at close range. John Lennon was returning to his apartment when he was
shot. Lennon was rushed to hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his
injuries and died on the way to the hospital. Mark waited outside his
apartment after receiving an autograph earlier in the day. Chapman was
arrested by police. Chapman was only 25 years old and sentenced to 20
years to life in prison.
Explanation
I believe this is a historically significant event because John Lennon was a part
of the rock group The Beatles. Lennon co wrote songs that made the band the
most popular musical group of the 20th century. The band was from Liverpool,
England and influenced music long after John’s death. The Beatles sold millions
of records as well as starring in movies. They are widely considered today as the
innovators of rock music and respected as one of the greatest musical groups of
all time.
