NOMENCLATURE OF ALKYL HALIDES

1. Name is based on longest carbon chain.


2. Number the carbons of the parent chain
beginning at the end nearer the first substituent.

3. If more than one of the same kind of halogen


is present, use the prefix di, tri, tetra.
4. If there are several different halogens,
number them and list them in alphabetical
order.

ends of chain, begin at the end nearer the
substituent whose name comes first in the
alphabet.
