PURPOSE OF MAN

1. Man in God’s Plan

– Created to the Image and likeness of God
– Endowed with Divine Life and Gifts
– Tasked to cultivate and subdue the earth
– Considered the crown of creation

2. The Fall and its Consequences

Darkness of Mind and weakness of the will
Rev. 12:7-9; Gen. 3:1-7
3. The Purpose of Man’s Existence

⬥ A. importance of Knowing it
⬥ B. How to Know it
⬥ C. Where man does look for it
⬥ D. Has one ever found it
⬥ 1. When God created man, He created him to
His own image and likeness, and man became
the crown of His whole creation. He was the
link between God and all other creatures. God
placed him in Paradise and gave him dominion
over the whole creation. Every creature, even
the most ferocious beast, was submissive to
man. There was only one thing God prohibited
man to do –to eat the fruit of the tree of good
and evil that grew in the middle of Paradise.
And man obeyed. There were harmony, peace,
and order in the whole creation.
⬥ 2. Then war broke out in
heaven. Michael and his angels
battled against the dragon.
Although the dragon and his
angels fought back, they were
overpowered and lost their
place in heaven. The huge
dragon, the ancient serpent,
known as the devil or Satan, the
seducer of the whole universe,
was driven out; he was hurled
down to earth and his minions
with him. (Rev. 12:7-9)
So when the devil came to earth, he
saw that man had dominion over the
whole creation. The devil was jealous of
this and decided to take it away from
man. How? He fooled man, seducing
him to eat the fruit of the tree that God
prohibited him to eat. (Gen. 3:1-7)
⬥ Man eat the fruit thereby rebelling against God.
This is the FALL. He lost to the devil his
dominion, so that from then on, there was
disorder in the whole creation. The creatures that
were submissive to man would now attack to
destroy him.
Man has now defend himself even
against the smallest creature his
naked eyes cannot even see – the
germs and viruses, spending a lot
money to protect himself from it.
Man’s mind and will were no longer
submissive to God. Man submitted himself
to his own mind and will.
3. PURPOSE OF MAN’S EXISTENCE
Why should we know the purpose of our
existence ? . . .
⬥ It gives us direction.. If we
know where we are going we
will be able to reach the
place and not get lost.
⬥ It gives us a clear sense of
values .. We will be able to
value only the things that
really matter to reach our
goal.
⬥ It gives us meaning to our
actions and our life.
How Do We Know The Purpose Of
Our Existence?

⬥ ASK THE MAKER .. The

carpenter will tell us what
he is making. The scientist
will disclose to us what he
is inventing .. About Man,
God, or whoever created
him, will tell us why He
created Man.
“God chose us in Him, before the world began, to be Holy and
Blameless and Full of Love. He likewise predestined us to be His
adopted children through Christ, such was His will and
pleasure” … Eph. 1:4-6

⬥ This very passage will

tell us God’s answer to
the question why He
created man .. Man is
created to be a child of
God, live united with
God on earth and
ultimately live with
God in heaven!
However, those who do not believe in the
Scriptures will know man’s purpose of existence
by simply observing man’s pursuits..
⬥ We see in man the
pursuit of happiness.
And he is not just
after mere happiness.
He wants the
happiness that will
completely satisfy
him without limits..
NEVER-ENDING HAPPINESS
⬥ MONEY … has always
been thought of as the
answer to all man’s
needs. Indeed, money
can buy many things ..
Houses, cars, appliances
and many others for
man’s comfort!

HAPPINESS ?
ONLY ONE IS EVERLASTING
OUR PURPOSE IN LIFE THEN IS…
EPHESIANS 1: 4-5
⬥ God chose us before the world
began
⬥ To be holy and blameless
⬥ To be full of love
⬥ He predestined us in Christ to be
His adopted children
HOW CAN WE BE UNITED WITH
GOD?
JESUS SAYS…
⬥ “I AM THE WAY, THE
TRUTH AND THE LIFE. NO
ONE GOES TO THE
FATHER EXCEPT
THROUGH ME”. (Jn. 14:6)
⬥ “I AM THE SHEEP GATE
AND THOSE WHO ENTER
WILL BE SAVED, WILL
COME IN AND GO OUT
AND FIND PASTURE” (Jn.
10:9)
⬥ “THE FATHER AND I ARE
ONE”.. “THE FATHER IS IN
ME AND I AM IN THE
FATHER”. (Jn. 10:30, 31)
Because of Jesus’ death on the
cross, we have made clear our
purpose.

Now, we are redeemed,

restored to our rightful place as
sons and daughters of God and
by the Precious Blood of Jesus
shed on the Cross,

We were healed of our

woundedness caused by our
fall. Jesus invites us to be one
with Him.
