INTRODUCTION
-:Definition
Red eye is a common problem that can affect one or both eyes. The redness associated with red
eye comes from blood vessels on the surface of your eye that are expanded (dilated) due to
some form of irritation or infection
ANATOMY
made up of three coats, which enclose the optically clear aqueous humour, lens, and
vitreous body. The outermost coat consists of the cornea and the sclera; the middle coat
contains the main blood supply to the eye and consists, from the back forward, of the choroid,
the ciliary body, and the iris.
bulbar conjunctiva is primarily derived from the ophthalmic artery. The blood supply to the
palpebral conjunctiva (the eyelid) is derived from the external carotid artery
PATHOLOGY
Sometimes it is something as simple as wearing contact lenses for too long, or staring at a computer
:screen for lengthy periods of time without a break. Other causes include, among others
allergies
,blepharitis (inflamed eyelid)
,conjunctivitis (pink eye), dry eye
,eye injury
glaucoma
