Female athlete

triad
 Some girls who play sports or exercise intensely
are at risk for a problem called female athlete
triad. Female athlete triad is a combination of
three conditions: disordered eating, amenorrhea,
and osteoporosis. A female athlete can have one,
two, or all three parts of the triad.
 Awareness of the triad is important, but this
should not discourage young women from
exercise and participating in sports.
 physical fitness encourages a healthy lifestyle.
 The obvious signs of eating disorders,
amenorrhea and osteoporosis are frequently
ignored, causing long-term, serious health
problems.
 Your specific wellness program depends on your
personality, occupation, health and many other
things. 
 For example, if your occupation is sport, the
aerobics, jogging or both may be the part of your
occupation
 The time of the exercises may be different,
though you should do them at least once a week
and for many exercises at least three times a
week. You may calculate the time and frequency 
 The first step in prevention the female athlete
triad is educating athletes, coaches, trainers, and
parents.
 Athletes should be educated about basic nutrition
concepts, burn out and over training, rest and
recovery, healthy weight management, energy
levels, and bone health.
 Female athletes, regardless of sport, should have
a solid understanding of the importance of a
healthy menstrual cycle. 
 It is also recommended that females keep a
record of their monthly period, and consult a
physician if they have menstrual dysfunction. 
 Athletes should be encourages to seek counseling
and consultation from a nutritionist to formulate
an appropriate nutrition plan that is specific to
their sport and energy needs.
 Open communication between athletes and their
coaches, trainers, parents and medical
professionals should be always available if they
sense a problem or need to ask a question.
