Joogle ABOUT SDG GOAL-
12
Sustainable Development Goal 12, titled
"responsible consumption and production", is
one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals
established by the United Nations in 2015. The
official wording of SDG 12 is "Ensure
sustainable consumption and Production.

STATEMENT OF
PURPOSE
To understand the effects of Waste
Management on the economy and
Gross Domestic Product(GDP) of
a country using a model of how
biogas/biofuel is produced.
Hypothesis
Using the model of Biogas &
hypothetical village role
play we will prove that waste
management has a very high
impact on the Economy and
GDP of a country.
What is GDP?
Gross domestic product
(GDP) is the standard
measure of the value added
created through the
production of goods and
services in a country during
a certain period.

nearly 2364 tons of rural wastes in the form of crop
residues, animal manure, and human excreta are produced
annually in partapur with a population of 510 people.

Conventional methods like landfil was used to dispose off the

waste. Some of it was also dumped into the river that created
issues for the villagers.

alternatives
About 77% of the waste
generated in the village was
used as domestic fuel,
animal fodder, and organic
fertilizer for crop

fo re production. The rest (23%)

be was left out in open fields

for natural decomposition.

Mina Kumari then introduced sustainable waste disposal

methods. The entire village then set up a biofuel and a
biogas plant.

ft e r
a
The energy balance sheet of the village indicated that the present
consumption of biomass resources was 50% less than that actually
required for various domestic and agricultural applications.

This helped reduce the village's dependency on fuel and at the same
time helped them manage their waste. Thus resulting in economical
benefits.
Observati
While working on this project we observed that-
on collected, on average 94% is
• Out of the total municipal waste
dumped on land and 5% is composted.

• Out of that 5%, only 3% of garbage waste is converted into

organic waste
which is used for making biogas and biofuels and the other

2% is recycled.
• Presently, India has six plants with a combined annual capacity
of 650 million liters of biogas per year. The production capacity
of existing plants ranges from 11 million liters to 280 million
liters

• TOTAL-ENERGIES, an French company opened the first plant

in India to sell biofuels which are made out of husks of wheat
grain
• GAIL and Adani Total Gas are the top companies in biogas
making in India.

91.3% respondents segregate your

Response: waste into different bins for
biodegradable and non-
biodegradable while 8.7% not

Yes
No
Question: List the steps you have taken in your everyday life
to minimize your house waste

Response:
Question: Have you ever tried making compost
from house waste?

Response: 48.9%make there own compost from

the house waste but 51.1%

Yes
No
Question: Are you aware of various ways to
dispose waste

97.1% people are aware of various

Response:
ways to dispose waste while 2.9
aren't aware

Yes
No
SOLUTION

Through meticulous research and experiments we found out

that waste can be used to generate environment friendly
biofuels. This not only protects the environment and reduces
our dependency on fossil fuels, but it also helps manage
waste and positively impacts the economy .
