 Background of the Study

 The productivity of any company will be greatly affected if the management of the
does not pay special attention to material management in the company.
 Materials management is that component of commercial enterprise hobby that offers
with planning for getting, receiving, dealing with, storing, and freeing of materials to
be used in production with effective control measures.
 . Bull (2016) The Lipfoco Mattress Company is purely Liberian owned business
seeking to improve the quality in services provided to the Liberian Business
Community
Problem Statement

 The mismanagement of material has been a challenge to every manufacturing

company of which Lipfoco mattress factory is no exception.
 The mismanagement of material has created problems which lead to the
manufacturing of substandard goods
 These problem have the ability to undermine the growth for development and
advancement of the company when not handle professionally and urgently.
 Materials management decreases waste for the organization. With a good materials
management practice and organization can improve.
Objective of the study

 The main objective of the study is to examine material management

on the profitability of manufacturing companies in Liberia. The
specific objectives are:

 To identify the material management techniques adopted by lipfoco.

 To assess material management techniques on firm productivity.
 To identify factors effecting material management.
Research Question

1. What are the material management techniques adopted by lipfoco mattress

company?

2. What are the method use by the company to assess material management on

firm productivity?

3. How can these problems be well handled to move the factory forward?
Significance of the Study

The study is crucial because there is an urgent need for greater systematic and empirical

efforts to investigate the position of material management on the profit margin of producing

factories in Liberia.

The study is important to production practitioners since the findings will assist them have

a perception on how to manage material leading to more achievement and improved the

performance of manufacturing factories as a vital plan to growth of economy in Liberia.

Scope of the Study

 The study will focus on the examination of material management on the

profitability of manufacturing factories in Liberia. The researcher will use the
Lipfoco Mattress Factory as an area of focus.
 The research study will cover the entire Lipfoco Mattress Factory located in
Bushrod Island, Bong Mines Bridge. All departments of the company will be
involved and both management and staff of the company will be sampled in
the collection of data for the study. 2018- 2020 is being captured as the
timeframe of the study.
Theoretical Framework

The researcher is making used of Classical Management Theory

Classical management theory is about employee and their physical needs, and

employee needs money to satisfy their physical needs. Classical Management

focuses on key principles

Profit maximization

Material Management and Emphasis on Productivity.

Chapter Three

 Research Method- This study will adopt the mixed research method,Acoording to Nataliya
the mixed method include both quantitative and qualitative data.
 Research Design the study will adopt the survey research design and it will include
questionnaires and personal interview to generate relevant and reliable information the lipfoco
mattress company.
 Population of the study the study will focus on 200 persons which 75 of them are occupying
administrative positions and the remaining 125 are staff members.
 Sample Size and Sampling Techniques Hence in keeping the research methodology practice
in view of the population size 10% of the population will be considered as the sample size for
the totaling to 20 persons ,which includes 5 administrators and 15 staffs to fully represent the
population of the lipfoco mattress company
 Instrument of the Study- With regards to the instrument of the study, the
researcher will do an open-ended interview questions. The questions will be
base on the research questions that is in-line with the objectives of the study.
 Source and Method of Data Collection-The researcher will use primary and
secondary data in conducting her study. In this study the primary source will
be collected through (interview question), secondary source through the
(related literature review)
Method of Data Analysis To analyze the data, the recorded data
will be transcribe coded and themed.
