WHAT IS ANGKAS?

Angkas is a Singaporean-owned company

conceptualized by its founder and CEO Angeline
Tham sometime in 2015 after she claimed that she
got late for several meetings after spending six
hours in traffic. DBDOYC Inc. was set up as Angkas's
operator.
Angkas Biker is a passenger transport and curb-side
delivery service, where users can book a biker to get
a safe and efficient service. From the app: Simply
input pick up and drop off details, insert notes,
confirm fare by pressing book, and head to the
designated location once you've been allocated a
biker.
WHAT IS THE ISSUE?

MANILA, Philippines — Ride-hailing company Angkas

on Saturday revealed that its operations are set to
continue in 2020, but it will lose a large portion of
its workforce due to a decision by the Land
Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to
limit the number of Angkas bikers on the road next
year.

The LTFRB decreased the number of Angkas bikers

allowed to operate next year to 10,000 from 27,000,
the motorcycle taxi firm said in a statement.
This could mean a harder time for passengers trying to
book rides on the service, which many use as an
alternative to unreliable mass transportation and more
expensive ride-hailing services like Grab.

According to an LTFRB post announcing the extension

of the pilot implementation of motorcycle taxis, it has
"allotted [a] cap of thirty-nine thousand (39,000)
registered bikers — ten thousand (10,000) bikers per
Transport Network Company (TNC) for Metro Manila and
three thousand (3,000) bikers per MC Taxi service
provider for Metro Cebu operations.”
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

The Government must provide alternative job for the

20,000 bikers who will lose their job by 2020.

Provide benefits for the family of the bikers

Give time for the bikers to find new job

Petition to bring back most of the bikers

REFLECTION

Every one who is employed has the will to fight for

their right as an employee.

No one has the right to remove someone from their

job without any valid reason
