Educational Development
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

After its initial appearance, the COVID-19 outbreak swiftly evolved into a global issue.
Although the virus's social spread is a source of concern for face-to-face education's long-
term survival, a quick overview of the virus's progress provides context. Because this highly
contagious disease has a relatively high fatality rate, public concern has unavoidably grown,
especially since the focus of COVID-19 was on interaction with people who might be
afflicted. Liu, Kuo, and Shih (2020). As a result, education has changed dramatically with the
apparent emergence of e-learning, where lessons are conducted remotely on digital
platforms.
In line with the new normal, the Department of Education established the Basic
Education – Learning Continuity Plan as a response to protect the health and safety of the
students, educators, personnel from the ongoing pandemic. This aims to provide quality
distance learning with the use of self-learning modules in digital form as stated Child hope
Philippines (2022).
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
• Some studies have been conducted to report the stress (e.g. Al Ateeq, Alijhani & AlEesa, 2020; and
Baloran, 2020) and challenges encountered by students in virtual learning spaces in their respective
countries (e.g. Adnan & Anwar, 2020 in Pakistan; Arinto, 2016 in the Philippines; Henaku, 2020 in
Ghana; Matswetu, et al., 2020 in Zimbabwe; Subedi et al., 2020 in Nepal; and Dhawan, 2020 in India).

• According to (Shore, 2020) mentioned in his article that an online class reduces the human relation
and therefore student motivation, interaction, and educator’s ability to adapt course materials and
presentations is somehow lost. .

• According to (Rost, 2019) found that online settings can create a feeling of anonymity to students
which makes it easier for students to leave or participate minimally or completely withdraw from the
course. These theories showed that students in online learning suffered from anxieties that lead to lack
of participation.

technology.
Future Researcher. will use the results presented in this study as a reference for future research or other
related discovery.
