Fuses can be divided in to two categories on the basis
of input voltage applied:
1. A.C. fuses

LOW VOLTAGE FUSE
Following are the two main types of fuses:
1. Rewire able Type Fuse
2. Cartridge Type Fuse
Rewire able Type Fuse:
• Open type
• Semi closed type
Cartridge Type Fuses:
•  It is the type of fuses in which they have totally
closed containers & has the contact i.e., metal
besides.

totally closed containers & has the contact i.e., metal besides.
OPEN TYPE OF FUSE
APPLICATION OF FUSES
They are used in home distribution boards, general
electrical appliances, and devices.
They are used in gaming consoles and all automobiles
such as car, trucks and other vehicles.
They are also used in laptops, cell phones, printers,
scanners, portable electronics, hard disk drives.
In the electrical distribution system, you will find
fuses in capacitors, transformers, power converters,
motor starters, power transformers.
They are used in LCD monitors, battery packs, etc.
CHOOSING FUSE
To calculate the current remember:
current = power/voltage
AMPS = WATTS/VOLTS
A garden flood light has bulb of 460 watt power and runs on
230 Volts. Calculate the current and fuse type if option are:
3A,5A,15A
Current = 460/230
=2A
Fuse type is 3A.
