INTRODUCTION
LORAZEPAM [ATIVAN]
 Sedatives :  CNS deprassant drugs that reduce excitement , tension and produce
relaxation.
 Hypnotics : depress CNS and produce sleep similar to natural sleep.  Also referred to
as SLEEPING PILLS .
 They cause drowsiness and facilitate the initiation and maintanance of sleep .
 Small doses cause SEDATION .
 Larger doses cause HYPNOSIS
 Still larger doses cause SURGICAL ANESTHESIA
 Lorazepam belongs to the class BENZODIAZEPINES
