A run-on sentence occurs when two or more independent clauses


are connected improperly.

For Example:
Amanda has a good job she never has to worry about
money.
Explanation:
1. Amanda has a good job
2. She never has to worry about money

How can you fix a Run-On
Sentences?
There are a bunch of ways to fix run-on
sentences; by giving comma splices: periods,
“ semicolons, and commas with coordinating
conjunctions.
1 How you fix the sentence?
Depends on how the different parts are related to
each other and what tone and rhythm you are
trying to achieve
For example using period

Here you have:


I am a woman I am a truck driver.

It should be written:
I am a woman. I am a truck driver.
For example using semicolon

Here you have:


I am a woman I am a truck driver.

It should be written:
I am a woman; I am a truck driver.
For example using conjunction

Here you have:


I am a woman I am a truck driver.

It should be written:
I am a woman and I am a truck
driver.
Or you could write
I am a woman yet I am a truck driver.
For example using conjunctive adverb

Here you have:


I am a woman I am a truck driver.

It should be written:
I am a woman; nevertheless, I am a
truck driver.
EXERCISES
Decide whether these sentences are run-on sentence or not. If there are
some run-on sentences, correct them!

General Sherman Sequoia, it is a little over 52.500
cubic feet.
◦ Toni Morrison is a professor at Princeton
University, she wrote the novel The Bluest Eyes.
◦ I told my roommate I would be late she still
locked me out.
