• UCSD is an NGO network or more than 40 NGOs dedicated to coordinate advocacy and lobby work around
issues and commitments made by world governments towards sustainable development.
• Mission is to contribute to Sustainable development through follow up of the Johannesburg summit outcomes and
subsequent global declaration in Uganda.
• UCSD is a member of the Uganda 2030 Agenda CSO Core reference Group (interest in SDG1,5,6,7,12,13 &15)
hosted by Uganda National NGO Forum; Chair - INFORSE East Africa & Renewable Energy CSOs Network (Uganda)
• Supports the Global Forum for National SDG Advisory Bodies to support issue-based collective knowledge on
national sustainable development policy-making among others.

Measures & Activities Results


UCSD as a member of the International Network for Sustainable Energy (INFORSE) members Baselines Reports (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, East Africa)
is part of a three –year cooperation project (2019-2022) in East Africa entitled: East African
Civil Society for Sustainable Energy & Climate Action (EASE & CA). The Partners are:
SusWatch Kenya, JEEP in Uganda, TaTEDO in Tanzania, INFORSE-East Africa c/o TaTEDO,
the International Network for Sustainable Energy (INFORSE), and the Nordic Folkecenter for
Renewable Energy in Denmark.

Project focus: strengthening CSOs‘ networking and advocacy for better climate targets, Public information & Education on SDG 7 & 13
financing of local, sustainable, pro-poor, gender-responsive climate- and energy solutions in
development strategies and in implementation.

Overall Project Development Objective: To provide increased access to sustainable energy


and to other climate solutions in local communities in Uganda, in Kenya, and in Tanzania, with
the full and effective participation and leadership of both women and men, to improve
livelihoods and to reduce poverty.

Project primarily works towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1 (poverty), SDG5
(gender), SDG7 (clean energy), SDG13 (climate action), and SDG17 (partnerships). Advocacy work at national level (incl. physical and virtual meetings)

Activities at Local - 3 districts in Uganda: Empower poor, rural communities to secure access to
clean energy and to improve their livelihoods in an economic and climate-friendly way;
National - Strengthen CSO activities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Formulate strategies &
scenarios for 100% renewable energy in Kenya and in Uganda & Organise meetings of CSO
coalitions, joint CSO proposals, presentations for national planners and decision-makers,
dialogues with stakeholders, and media campaigns.in ways that reinforce each other;
International level - advocacy at the UNFCCC (CSO voice to inform and influence climate Global advocacy - UNFCCC, UNHLDE, Climate Dialogues 2020, etc.
and sustainable energy related negotiations).

Global Forum for National SDGs, UN Energy, etc.)  sustainable energy
options, local solutions in Country NDCs, Global Stock take under UNFCCC
negotiations, 100% Renewables target ….. Focus on SDGs 1 (poverty), SDG 5
(gender), SDG 6 (clean and safe water), SDG7 (clean energy), SDG13
(climate action), SDG 15 (life on land) and SDG17 (partnerships).
