INFORSE Members in Uganda
About INFORSE
INFORSE is a worldwide network consisting of 140 NGOs working in
about 60 countries to promote sustainable energy and social
development; established in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 to secure
follow-up on the UNCED political decisions.

INFORSE has a Vision: A world where energy services that are


necessary for a just and human centred-development, are
provided in a sustainable way using renewable energy.

INFORSE East Africa has been implementing the East African Civil
Society for Sustainable Energy and Climate Action (EASE CA) Project
2019-23 (strengthening CSOs‘ networking and advocacy for better
climate targets, financing of local, sustainable, pro-poor, gender-
responsive climate- and energy solutions in development strategies
and in implementation) -- CAISAL (July 2023 – Dec.2024)
”Synergies Across Continents’ Project

• To bring together experiences from different regions and strengthen


INFORSE members, we decided to start ”Synergies Across Continents”
as a training platform (5 webinars) for promotion of local sustainable
energy solutions - ends in August 2023

• Building on the EASE CA Project, INFORSE Uganda members identified 4


advocacy issues:
1. Tree planting
2. Limit illegal trade in charcoal; Better framework for charcoal
3. Electricity tariff to make more user friendly, cheaper/affordable for
(domestic / Household) small consumers
4. Improved knowledge in local solutions, the proposals presented

• Mandatory to showcase the available local sustainable
energy and climate solutions to the public and policy
makers attention at regular periods/ occasions / events
etc. (ref: The Catalogue of Local Sustainable Solutions-
East Africa)

• Set up Learning Centres on sustainable energy and


climate action as part of rural development
interventions (emphasis on energy use in agricultural
production, marketing etc.) - Parish Development

Objectives of the INFORSE Uganda Meeting
Nature Palace Foundation (INFORSE Uganda Coordinator) in conjunction with
UCSD with support from this project has further taken up the advocacy issue:
Improved knowledge in local solutions, the proposals presented. We therefore
plan to do 3 things;

1. Hold planning meetings (at least 2) to further discuss and highlight how
members can actively participate in promoting the relevant local sustainable
energy solutions identified in the ‘INFORSE Synergies Across Continents’
Project and to identify upcoming processes where advocacy for the local
solutions will be key (sustainable energy, climate action)

2. Sustain the Social Media (SoME) Campaign of the local sustainable energy
solutions (on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp) --- on going since
May 2023

3. Brainstorm on the content of the joint INFORSE Uganda members'


statement to the Africa Climate Week (from 4-8 September 2023) in
Nairobi, hosted by the Government of Kenya to feed into COP28 later on in
the year

Africa Climate Week
• To take place from 4-8 September 2023 in Nairobi, hosted by the
government of Kenya at KICC, Nairobi

• brings together government delegations, representatives from UN


agencies, multilateral development institutions, financial
organizations, and the private sector, all committed to addressing the
urgent climate challenges facing Africa.

• Africa Climate Summit 2023 will focus on delivering innovative green


growth and climate finance solutions for Africa and the World
