The Truth of Hand

Washing
How Many time per
day do people wash
their hands?
My Claim
I believe that 95% of
people wash their
hands at least 10 times
per day.
What Interests me
about this study?
● The number of times someone washes
their hands piqued my interest because
of the COVID-19 pandemic that is going
on right now. The spread of COVID has
increased a lot and I wanted to see what
or how well people were handling taking
precautions to prevent the spread of
these germs and germs in general.
Study and Sampling
Technique
To gather my data, I used random
sampling. I took a poll and asked
customers and co-workers how many times
a day do they wash their hands, including
the use of hand sanitizer. Everyone is
affected and can be considered for this
study.
Raw Data
7,4,5,10,14,5,25,15,9,4,10,3,8,7,
20,17,8,9,17,25,18,3,5,8,10
Looking at the
data I
collected, I saw
that the
majority of
people either
exceed or were
below my
claim.

Looking at the results of the hypothesis testing, I saw that my claim was false. There were many people that
were below 10 hand washes per day, overall people were not washing their hands enough. 52% of people
were washing their hands less than needed. the poles were close.

The amount of people that washed their hands enough times in a day was not as high as expected. it was
slightly under.

95% of people did not meet hand washing requirements. only 48% did.

My study also showed me that some people are not taking this pandemic seriously and are not washing their
hands enough in a day. some people were washing them more than expected while others barely washed
their hands in a day.

My results helped explain why the spread of COVID is still increasing.

One can argue that handwashing is not the only way to
prevent the spread of covid.

My study also did not examine how well people washed their
hands. one can study whether they washed their hands for
20 seconds or more and whether they scrubbed their hands
properly.

Even if someone were to wash their hands many times in a

day, whether they washed them correctly could make a
significant impact in the spread of germs.
